  1. Hey Shawn,

I think it seems like we're both the only guys in the class so we have to comment on each other's videos right? It was nice hearing about your family, and it was surprising to hear your interest in German and Spanish. I rarely hear about German so I guess that's why it shocked me. Do you think you'll ever feel the need to get back in the classroom to acquire a second language? I feel like time is a commodity that few of us have control of, myself included. I want to refresh and advance my Vietnamese, but with handling family, school, and other obligations I feel it is very stressful and straining to fully dedicate myself to the language. I hope you achieve your goals, and I appreciate your video. Thanks

    1. Hi Shawn!
I enjoyed your video and getting to know a little bit more about you. It’s really cool how you got the chance to travel to Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Island. I also like traveling, but I have hardly been to any places. Someday, I do hope to travel more or maybe even travel the world. It’s really neat to have learned that you have the chance to encounter German and Spanish. Also, I liked the fact that you took the initiative to try to learn German on your own even though it didn’t really work out. When I was in middle school, I was also first introduced to Spanish. I believed that both of our teachers taught through the Grammar Translation Method, which showed that the language was taught for just simply “gaining reading proficiency” and not to “primarily learn oral/aural communications” (Brown & Lee, 2015, p. 17). I felt like I can’t expect to be fluent in Spanish if I don’t get the chance to practice it authentically with other native Spanish speakers. Overall, I liked your way of thinking because I find it is important to have a growth mindset, which would allow you to have room for improvement and be used as a source of motivation.
